You do not need Python to be good at data

Most business questions are answered in a spreadsheet, by someone who knows how to structure a table, ask the right question of it and show the result clearly. That skill is rarer than it should be, and it is learnable in a few weeks.

This course uses five real-world datasets — sales, support tickets, marketing spend, HR and inventory — and walks through the same workflow every time: clean, shape, analyse, present. By the last week you build a dashboard from raw exports on your own.

Everything is demonstrated in Google Sheets and Excel side by side.

What you will be able to do

  • Clean a messy export in minutes

Trim, split, deduplicate and standardise dates and categories.

  • Build pivot tables that answer questions

Group, filter and compare periods without formulas.

  • Join data from two sources

XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH and when to use each.

  • Spot trends and outliers

Rolling averages, growth rates and simple statistics.

  • Choose the right chart

And make it readable for someone with thirty seconds.

  • Build a one-page dashboard

That refreshes when the data changes.

Five datasets, one workflow

Each week introduces a new dataset with the same four steps: clean, shape, analyse, present. Repetition is the point — by week four the workflow is automatic and you spend your attention on the question, not the tool.

Datasets are realistic: inconsistent dates, duplicate customers, mixed currencies and columns that mean two things at once.

  • Sales orders with returns
  • Support tickets with SLAs
  • Marketing spend across channels
  • Inventory with lead times

The programme

  1. 1Week 1 — Tables that workStructure first: tidy data, types, named ranges.
    • What tidy data looks like and why it matters
    • Text to columns, TRIM, SPLIT and dates that behave
    • Removing duplicates safely
    • Named ranges and tables
  2. 2Week 2 — Pivot tablesThe fastest way from table to answer.
    • Rows, columns, values: thinking in pivots
    • Grouping dates and buckets
    • Calculated fields and percent of total
    • Comparing periods
    • Slicers and filters for others
  3. 3Week 3 — Lookups and joinsCombining sources without breaking them.
    • XLOOKUP and VLOOKUP explained once and for all
    • INDEX/MATCH for the awkward cases
    • Many-to-one and many-to-many pitfalls
    • QUERY and FILTER in Google Sheets
  4. 4Week 4 — Analysis that holds upTrends, rates and sanity checks.
    • Growth rates, run rates and rolling averages
    • Averages lie: medians and distributions
    • Outliers and how to report them
    • Conditional formatting as analysis
    • Checking your own work
  5. 5Week 5 — Charts and the dashboard projectFrom analysis to a page someone will read.
    • Choosing a chart in ten seconds
    • Making charts readable
    • Building a refreshable dashboard
    • Project: your dashboard from raw exports

Your first steps

You start with “Week 1 — Tables that work”. It covers: What tidy data looks like and why it matters; Text to columns, TRIM, SPLIT and dates that behave; Removing duplicates safely. Nothing in it assumes knowledge from later parts of the course, so you can begin the day you enrol.

By the end of that first part you will already have done something concrete rather than only watched — and you will know whether the pace suits you. If it does not, the 14-day guarantee means you lose nothing.

Is this course for you?

This course is for you if…

  • You already use spreadsheets at work and want to go from 'formulas' to 'analysis'
  • You are asked for reports and want them to be trusted and quick to produce
  • You are considering a data or analyst role and want a portfolio piece
  • You prefer learning with realistic data over toy examples

Probably not a fit if…

  • You have never opened a spreadsheet — start with a basics course first
  • You need statistics for research or academic publication
  • You specifically want to learn SQL or Python (that is our next course)

Why learn this in a structured course

Spreadsheet tricks are easy to find; a workflow is not. This course teaches one workflow — clean, shape, analyse, present — and repeats it on five realistic datasets until it is automatic.

Realistic means messy: inconsistent dates, duplicates, mixed units. That is what makes the skills transfer to your own data on Monday.

What learners say

“The lookups week finally made XLOOKUP click. I rebuilt our weekly report in an afternoon.”
Sofia L. · Customer success lead (example)
“Realistic data. Dirty dates, duplicates, the lot. That is what made it useful.”
Ahmed K. · Supply planner (example)

Frequently asked questions

Google Sheets or Excel?

Both. Every lesson shows the step in each tool and notes the differences. Files are provided in both formats.

How much time per week?

Around 2.5 hours of lessons plus 1–2 hours of practice. Five weeks at that pace, or faster if you like.

Do I need maths or statistics?

Only arithmetic. The statistics we use (averages, medians, growth rates) are explained from scratch.

How do I get access after paying?

An email with your login arrives within minutes. Access is for life, including updates.

Is there a refund policy?

Yes: full refund within 14 days of purchase, no questions asked.
