A good garden starts with a good plan

Most sites are developed piece by piece — a terrace here, a bed there — and end up as a collection of parts rather than a place. Landscape design is the discipline of planning the whole before building the parts.

This course suits both amateur gardeners and aspiring landscape designers. It is structured in blocks for better comprehension; our instructor and methodologists have prepared practical tasks, summaries and illustrative additional materials for each one.

You will leave with a project for your own site and the skills to design other gardens in the future.

How the course works

The programme is divided into blocks: site analysis, planning and zoning, planting and materials, and your project. Each block has detailed video lessons, a summary, additional materials prepared by the methodologists and a homework task on your own plot.

You submit homework in your account and receive feedback; personal consultations are unlimited for the duration of the course, so questions about your soil, slope, climate or budget get answered while you work.

The final block assembles everything into a landscape plan with phases — what to build this year, what can wait — so the project is realistic as well as beautiful.

What you will learn

  • Design and thoughtfully plan the landscape of a site
  • Understand landscape design from the ground up
  • Know where to start when setting up your site
  • Intelligently zone the territory of a site
  • Work through detailed video lessons with homework
  • Use unlimited personal consultations as you work

Learn by designing your own site

Each block ends with homework applied to a real plot — yours or one you choose. You submit it, receive feedback and move on, so the final project grows lesson by lesson.

Personal consultations are unlimited for the duration of the course: ask about your soil, your slope, your budget.

  • Real plot as the course project
  • Feedback on every assignment
  • Summaries and additional materials

Your first steps

You start with “Starting out”. It covers: Analysing a site: sun, soil, slope and access; Where to start and what to decide first. Nothing in it assumes knowledge from later parts of the course, so you can begin the day you enrol.

By the end of that first part you will already have done something concrete rather than only watched — and you will know whether the pace suits you. If it does not, the 14-day guarantee means you lose nothing.

What you get

  • Video lessons in four blocks, with summaries
  • Site analysis checklist (sun, soil, slope, access, views)
  • Zoning and layout templates
  • Plant selection tables by conditions and season
  • Hard landscaping materials guide
  • Homework with feedback on your own plot
  • Unlimited personal consultations during the course
  • Phased project plan template
  • Lifetime access to the lessons

Is this course for you?

This course is for you if…

  • You have a garden or plot and want a plan rather than piecemeal fixes
  • You are considering landscape design as a profession
  • You enjoy gardening and want to understand design

Probably not a fit if…

  • You need engineering drawings for permits
  • You want a plant-identification course only

Why learn this in a structured course

Design is learned by doing a project under guidance, not by collecting inspiration. This course gives you the project (your own space) and the guidance (homework, feedback and consultations), and the inspiration takes care of itself.

Each topic adds one layer to the same project, so the skills connect in your hands rather than sitting in separate videos.

After the course

You look at your plot and see a plan instead of a list of chores: where people walk, sit and look, what grows where and why, what to build first. Work you commission is cheaper because you can brief it precisely, and work you do yourself fits the whole.

Students who want to go further have a complete first project for a portfolio and a method they can apply to any garden.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need my own garden?

It helps, but you can design for a friend's plot or a sample site provided in the course.

How do I get access after paying?

Within a few minutes of payment you receive an email with your personal login to the course platform. Access does not expire.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. Our Shipping & Refund Policy applies: contact info@mentorhubshop.com within 14 days of purchase if the course is not what you expected.

Does the course cover my climate zone?

The design method is climate-neutral; plant selection lessons explain how to choose for your own conditions, and consultations can address your specific region.

How large does my plot need to be?

Any size, from a small courtyard to a large rural site. Zoning principles scale, and examples cover both.

What format are the lessons in?

Pre-recorded video lessons with written summaries, available in your account on any device. You can pause, repeat and come back to any lesson whenever you like.

What if I have a question during the course?

Each lesson has a questions area, and the support team answers within one working day. Questions that many students ask become additions to the course.
